Recovery and Healing After Wisdom Tooth Removal
Recovery plays a vital role in ensuring the success of your wisdom tooth extraction. Most patients begin to feel better within a few days, but complete healing may take a couple of weeks.
Immediately after the procedure, it is normal to experience mild swelling, discomfort, or slight bleeding. These symptoms are temporary and can be managed with prescribed medications and simple at-home care. Applying ice packs to the outside of your cheek can help reduce swelling, while resting and avoiding strenuous activities will support faster healing.
Diet is also important during recovery. Soft foods such as yogurt, mashed potatoes, smoothies, and soups are recommended for the first few days. Avoid hard, crunchy, or spicy foods that may irritate the surgical site. Additionally, it is important to avoid using straws, as the suction can disturb the healing process and lead to complications like dry socket.
