Grid-connected inverters are designed to send energy directly to the grid, necessitating the tracking of the frequency and phase of the grid. This is equivalent to that of a current source. In contrast, off-grid inverters are analogous to the establishment of an autonomous mini-grid, primarily regulating their own voltage, which can be conceptualized as a voltage source. A grid-connected inverter does not necessitate energy storage; however, the energy it produces is not adjustable. Photovoltaic (PV) systems send as much energy as they wish to the Internet, regardless of whether or not it is desired. The grid is often a source of frustration. Off-grid systems typically require energy storage and do not send energy online. The grid has no authority to interfere.
Grid-connected inverters are generally categorized into photovoltaic power grid-connected inverters, wind power grid-connected inverters, power equipment power grid-connected inverters and other power equipment power grid-connected inverters. The most important feature of grid-connected inverters is the high power and low cost of the system. Grid-connected inverters are generally used in systems with large-scale photovoltaic power plants, where many parallel photovoltaic strings are connected to the DC input of the same centralized inverter. Generally, large-power three-phase IGBT power modules are used, and smaller-power field-effect transistors are used, and a DSP converter-controller is used to improve the quality of the output power so that it is very close to sinusoidal wave current.
The distinction between an off-grid and a grid-connected inverter is largely a matter of semantics. While the external appearance of the two types of inverters may appear similar, a closer examination reveals significant differences in their core functions. It is important to note that individual inverter manufacturers may employ unique design elements or illustrations to enhance the understanding of their product's functionality.
